What is Mechatronics?

Mechatronics:
Mechatronics refers to the efficient and effective integration of mechanical systems and electronics. It is a blend of mechanics and electronics, and has come to mean the synergistic use of:
1. precision engineering
2. control theory
3. computer science
4. mathematics
5. sensor technology, to design enhanced or "smart" products, processes and systems. Another way mechatronics is centred on mechanics, electronics and computing which, combined, make possible the generation of simpler, more economical, reliable and versatile systems. It integrates the classical fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, and computer science/information technology. Its application areas range from power systems to transportation to optical telecommunications to biomedical engineering, along with a host of others. Mechatronic systems are almost everywhere you look.

Mars Rover was the best example of mechatronics oriented project. Mechatronics is successfully applied in the robotics also. So we can see a correct blending of mechatronics with robotics. The next two decade will be the era of robotics, mechatronics and nano technology. Al these three field have some linking in many fields. In one sense we can say that all these branches together and independently make our life comfortable.
Work areas:
Mechatronics combines mechanical, electrical and software engineering in the design, development and control of diverse systems used in a range of industries including manufacturing, medicine and the service industries. Examples of mechatronic systems include aircraft, dishwashers, motor vehicles, automated manufacturing plants, medical and surgical devices and systems, robots of all types, many toys, artificial organs and many others. Mechatronics engineers are therefore involved in almost every possible industry at levels from applications development to manufacturing to advanced research.
Careers:
Graduates with a Mechatronics degree can take up careers in a wide spectrum of industries including robotics, aerospace, chemical, defence and automotive and manufacturing where complex software plays a major role, as well as in businesses that require extensive computer support, such as banking and commerce. Contributions can be made to these industries in a variety of roles including design engineer, software engineer, project planner, product designer and project manager.
It is better to mechatronics as specialization for B.Tech or BE – electronics, mechanical, and electronics. It will give more openings. If one want to stick into mechatronics at graduation level itself there some colleges in Tamilnadu providing Mechatronics at degree level. Remember there are some polytechnics in tamilnadu providing mechatronics at diploma level.

Schools beckon career counsellors to campuses
By ABDUL LATHEEF NAHA

A career guidance programme organised at St. Gemma's Girls Higher Secondary School in Malappuram was an opportunity for the students of Class XII of the school to know about the courses and jobs awaiting them.

THE IMPORTANCE of career guidance is increasingly felt on our school and college campuses. Many higher secondary schools and colleges have begun to arrange guidance sessions for their students. St. Gemma's Girls Higher Secondary School at Malappuram last week introduced its Class XII students to a guidance session ....
Good response M.S. Jalil, the principal counsellor of CIGI, looked ecstatic after seeing the response of the students. He held separate sessions for the students of humanities, science and commerce. Mr. Jalil's session for Plus Two students looked slightly different from his regular career guidance programmes. Instead of exposing students to information fatigue by bombarding them with a whole lot of information on various career opportunities, Mr. Jalil chose a method where the children's curiosity could be kindled...
Motivation "Rather than giving complete information, I prefer to motivate the students at this stage," he said. He was right. Curious as they turned, the St. Gemma's girls started asking questions on various subjects they were till then ignorant of. Many of them appeared keen to take up journalism. Some of them, like Vandana T., have already started preparing for a Master's Degree in Mass Communication. Mr. Jalil gave them a variety of options in almost all fields. For example, he explained, within mass communication there are 40-odd specialisations, including advertising, multimedia and public relations.
