BITSAT 2009

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) has invited application for the online test to admit the students to different first degree and integrated PG programs conducted at its three centers all over india.
BITSAT-2009 BITS Admission Test-2009- will be conducted at (i) Pilani (ii) Goa (iii) Hyderabad City (iv) Ahmedabad (v) Bangalore (vi) Hyderabad Campus of BITS (vii) Chandigarh (viii) Chennai (ix) Bhubaneswar (x) Delhi (xi) Gurgaon (xii) Coimbatore (xiii) Indore (xiv) Kolkatta (xv) Lucknow (xvi) Mumbai (xvii) Nagpur (xviii) Noida (xix) Visakhapatnam and (xx) Vijayawada between 9th May 2009 and 12th June 2009, based on the time slots booked by the applicant at the BITS website between 18th February and 10th March 2009.

Courses conducted in three centers of BITS are:
(i) Pilani Campus: B.E.(Hons.): Chemical; Civil; Computer Science; Electrical and Electronics; Electronics & Instrumentation; Mechanical; B.Pharm.(Hons.);M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Economics; Mathematics; Physics; and M.Sc.(Tech.): General Studies; Engineering Technology; Finance; Information Systems.
(ii) Goa Campus: B.E.(Hons.): Chemical; Computer Science; Electrical and Electronics; Electronics & Instrumentation; Mechanical; M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Economics; Mathematics; Physics; and M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems.
(iii) Hyderabad Campus: B.E.(Hons.): Chemical; Civil; Computer Science; Electronics & Communication, Electrical and Electronics; Mechanical; B.Pharm.(Hons.); M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Economics; Mathematics; Physics; and M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems.

Eligibility: Pass in 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central/State Board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics securing at least 60% marks in each of these subjects and aggregate 80% marks. Those appearing for Class 12 examination in 2009 or who have passed this Examination in 2008 only are eligible to appear in the BITSAT-2009. Students who have passed Class 12 examination in 2007 or earlier are not eligible to appear in BITSAT-2009. Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT-2009.

Applicants securing First rank at Class 12 examination of all the Central and State boards in India for the year 2009 will be given direct admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT- 2009 score subject to the general eligibility criteria.

Applicants should register their names for BITSAT-2009 by applying in the prescribed application form online at http://www.bitsadmission.com. A print out of the submitted application has to be taken. The completed application form along with the prescribed fees of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for female candidates) should be sent to Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani – 333031. The details for payment of fees are available at the website.

Application form by can also be obtained by Post from the Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani, Rajasthan - 333031 by sending a request to reach there latest by 21st January 2009, giving the applicant’s name and gender with complete postal address, along with a Crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 1100/- (Rs. 600/- for Female candidates).

Demand Drafts should be drawn in favour of ‘Birla Institute of Technology & Science’ payable at State Bank of India, Pilani (code: 1976) or State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Pilani (Code: 10398) or UCO Bank, Vidya Vihar, Pilani (Code: 0150) or ICICI Bank, Jhunjhunu (Code: 0799)
Completed forms should be sent by Registered Post/ Speed Post or should be submitted personally to ‘The Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani, Rajasthan – 333031’, to reach there by 5 pm on 31st January 2009 (Saturday).

Those who register for the test and reserve test dates have to download the ‘Hall ticket’, along with instructions, from BITS website between 20th and 31st of March 2009.

In addition to appearing in BITSAT-2009, candidates interested in admission to BITS, have to apply later for admission giving details of their Class 12 marks and preferences to different degree programmes offered. The prescribed application form for admission, the detailed application procedure and the final list of Degree programmes offered will be available at the BITS website, by 20th May 2009. All candidates interested in admissions have to submit the filled up form with a fee of Rs. 200/- to reach ‘The Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani, Rajasthan – 33303’ by 5 pm on 30th June 2009.

THE TEST BITSAT will be of 3-hours duration, without break. The test consists of four parts with Part I – Physics, Part II – Chemistry, Part III - (a) English Proficiency and (b) Logical Reasoning, Part IV – Mathematics.

All questions will be of objective type (multiple choice questions) with four answers, only one being correct. Each correct answer will get 3 marks, while each incorrect answer will have 1 negative mark. No marks are awarded for questions not attempted. While the candidate can skip a question, the computer will not allow the candidate to choose more than one option as correct answer.

There will be 150 questions with 40 from Physics, 40 from Chemistry, 15 from English Proficiency, 10 from Logical Reasoning and 45 from Mathematics. There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers among the 150 questions. If a candidate answers all the 150 questions, without skipping any question, the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; with four questions from each. A candidate, who opts for extra questions, cannot go back for correction of any of the 150 questions answered earlier. At the completion of the test, the computer will announce the result to the candidate in terms of number of total correct answers and wrong answers, with the score. The candidate can also check and print his score report at the BITS website after all the tests are completed. No student will be allowed to repeat the test in the same year.

BITSAT- 2009 test will be conducted on the basis of NCERT syllabus for 11th and 12th class. The detailed syllabus is available in the Information Brochure. A sample test will be made available to the registered candidates at the BITS website on which he/she can practice as many times as desired.

Career guidance has taken a back seat in the face of cut-throat competition for government sponsorship in higher institutions of learning. It is only the cream of the cream who stand a chance to study courses of their choice, get state sponsorship and a job in the end.
