PhD - Astronomy/ Astrophysics @ Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore

The premier research institute, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore has invited application for the PhD program from the students with M.Sc (Phy/Math/A&A) or B.E/ B.Tech / M.Tech Electrical/ Electronics/ Mech/Instr). Students in their final year of the qualifying degree course can also apply. The selection procedure will involve:screening of the applications, a written test and personal interview at IIA, Bangalore.

Candidates with valid UGC-CSIR (NET) fellowship will be called directly for the interview

DETAILS OF ADMISSION

The written test will consist of multiple-choice questions on basic Mathematics & Physics and Advanced Physics (MSc. Physics syllabus). Candidates selected to participate in the admission test will receive a letter from the institute. The candidates have to bring this letter to participate in the admission test. Based on the test results, candidates will be shortlisted for interviews on November 24 and/or 25, 2007.Applications received till 24 October 2007 will be considered for this test

ADMISSION THROUGH JEST EXAMINATION
Applications for the Ph.D. Programme - August 2007 are invited from students with M.Sc (Phy/Math/A&A) or B.E./M.E. (Electrical/Electronics/Mech/Instr).
Students who expect to complete their degree in the academic year 2006-2007 may also apply.

ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility for the Programme that begins in August 2007 is
(a) Candidates who have qualified the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) -2007; Candidates short listed for the interview will receive a call letter.
(b) Candidates who have qualified the UGC-CSIR NET (2006/2007) in Physics, with fellowship;
(c) Those who have obtained above 95 percentile in GATE-2007 in Physics.
